Welcome to SimBasic - a community legacy!

What happened next? Find out in the Greench Farm legacy!

4 couples stranded and founded a new community on Maccaroni Island. Currently the 3rd generation is about to start new families! This is a Sims3 community legacy that has been updated frequently for a full year, and contains about 100 chapters! Late July 2012 it came to an end and a new spin-off legacy focusing on just one of these households will bring the story forward, starting August 15, 2012.

The very first post is here, or use the Blog Archive to look back. Posts describing the project are tagged *. Please see the interactive map for household bios and family trees. Comments are welcome both here on the blog and on the SimBasic thread at the thesims3 forum. Even if there won't be more updates, I will still read your commnts.

Find all my stories and Sims projects gathered at my blog, Simmerville's Sims :)

I hope you will enjoy the read! :-)

Week 11 Day 4: The day after

Last night the volcano was discovered. Maccaroni Island turned out to be volcanic, the recent earthquakes were actually caused by the awakening volcano!

Rebecka Black was one of the 3 girls who walked up to the mountain, and then ran off again as fast as they could. They ran home, Rosanne Redward to the Redward ranch in the western region, Graica Greench to the farm of the southern region, and Rebecka Black ran over the mountain fishing spot pretty close to the mine, and from there straight down to her tiny home at 4 Black Heights. She was shocked by what she found...

Dark smoke raised from the damaged house. Huge rocks had rolled down from the mountain, and smashed the house! All the way from the mine there was a line of variously sized rocks.

Nobody was to be seen. When Rebecka called for her mom Bella, dad Christopher and siblings Bonita and Carla, there was just silence. Not even the cats were around.

She ran over to the house of granny Bianca and uncle Alfonso.

Well, it's the day after the discovery. Everyone was now informed, but most of the residents had no idea what it meant that their little island was volcanic. Only the 3 elders had the knowledge needed to see this in a perspective, and the bookworms of the Yea-Low family as well as some of the Redward descendants, had read just a little. Still, it was too hard to relate to facts like the island possibly been built up from a volcano eruption long ago, and that it would not be possible for anyone to live there when the volcano gets fully active again.

This quiet, lovely place in the middle of a endless ocean, rich of fish, plants and wild life. The perfect base for a growing community was suddenly turned into a prison.

Locals were gathered all over the village to debate the situation. Outside the bakery, Agnes Y. J. Hawk, Constance R. Hamming and Beatrice G. Hedgewall shared news. Two of the Hamming boys were there also, Russell already a teenager! Agnes and Beatrice were both pregnant.

Constance had just visited her brother at the Health Care center across the road from the bakery.

This isn't exactly a hospital, but more like an info center. Dorothy R. Yea-Low is not a doctor, but an advisor giving out health advice and selling some medicines based on local herbs, as well as some cosmetics initiated by her late mom, Rita Redward.

Randal's wife Corinne was there too. It had been a very hectic morning and right now Dorothy had examined Randal.

For a moment Corinne wondered whether such a mental change could be for the better? In Randal's case it would actually be needed. But she said nothing.

Randal always had a difficult relation to his younger brother Christopher. Hearing about this rocks was good news to him!

Dorothy left the room. There were many locals waiting for her advices, they wanted to know about precautions, if the volcanic smoke was dangerous, if crops would be affected, and lots more. And Dorothy realized she hardly held any of the answers.

Meanwhile Corinne worried about the coming days...

Corinne naturally thought about Cody G. Major, but kept his name unmentioned.

Randal had never quite accepted that his brother partly won the trial some time ago. According to law, Randal could protest within 7 simdays, or keep forever quiet. The seventh day would be tomorrow.

Over at 3 Greench Farm Archie and Bridgette had gathered 4 of their kids. Raising kids had never been a subject on the island, but Bridgette had been worried sick last night when they saw the red steam from the mountain, and Bertil returning to the farm told that Graica was up there. When they also found that the twins Boletta and Godrian were missing, Bridgette saw the pattern.

Bridgette didn't even see how they would do a grounding. They needed everyone to help working on the farm, and locking someone up would just not make sense. Just preaching to the kids, might be enough for them to understand that on this farm, every single person was valuable.

Before visiting Bianca Blumington in the northern region, Bridgette and Archie headed over to Greench Market. Bridgette had worked there almost daily ever since she married to Archie.

Now they just wanted to make sure the place wasn't damaged by the recent volcanic activities. They found just one glass of home made marmalade had smashed from falling to the floor. Everything else was fine.

While Bridgette and the twins started the rather long walk over to granny Bianca, the Village council gathered for an urgent meeting in the Village hall. Recently the field in front of the Village hall was nicely upgraded by Cody G. Major.

In the board room the council was gathered. Yoseph Y. Hedgewall, Alex Yea-Low, Archie Greench and Bella B. Black. Alex took the word...

That's right, old Yespar Yea-Low died last night. He was a great inventor all along, helping their community to develop. Alex is also an Inventor, and will hopefully fill his dad's shoes.

They had a quick briefing to summarize the latest event and effects thereof. Central region was not damaged, but it's located very close to the mountain which made it feel unsafe. Western region seemed to be undamaged, although they still worried about the new Fort base been built so close to the mountain though. Southern region which holds most households seemed to be untouched too. The eastern region was so far fine, only the graveyard wasn't inspected yet.

Alex was right. Although some of the ideas were fine, they needed more knowledge. Like how would a future eruption strike? What's normal volcano behavior like? And maybe the top of the mountain, away from the volcano, near the mine, was now the only safe spot on the island?

A little later, Bridgette and the kids finally reached 3 Blumington Road. This is where Bridgette lived before marrying, and her mom Bianca and unmarried brother Alfonso still resided.

No, those names were Bridgette's siblings, not her kids. Bridgette had not been here in a while, but from her sister Bella she knew that their mom had lost the grip. It was pretty tough to deal with.

Bianca and Alfonso were very poor, there was no way the old woman could serve a finer lunch. Bridgette knew that, so she had brought a little food from the farm.

The twins thought granny was a bit strange and scary. They were still attracted though, after all she was their 2nd granny.

The Blumingtons in fact hail from blue aliens, many generations back. On her older days, Bianca had become much more focused on this fact.

Godrian couldn't remember any glowing plants on the farm. He would have to ask uncle Alfonso!

Soon the lunch was prepared, and all 4 got seated while toddler Eileen got a piece of bread to chew on.

The hours went by quickly, Alfonso had still not returned.

They had to hurry to reach back to Greench Farm before it got totally dark outside.

Not far from the Blumington house, the Black family was trying to cope with the facts. Their home was ruined. They had explored the inside, found that some was damaged, some was fine. But they didn't know what to do.

Bella had photographed most of the elders long ago. The photos were luckily safe. She planned to sell some of them to the descendants of the original settlers. It would help raising a little money.

It wasn't quite true that they had no bedroom. The tiny room that all 3 daughters shared was not damaged by the giant rocks.

So, granny Bianca had personified the mountain? A mountain disliking the Black settlement? Why would a mountain care about who lived where? The northern region is unfertile and windy, the ground is even covered by dark dust, and always was. Now they all understand that it was volcanic ashes all along. And the dead trees? Did the volcano kill them?

Little Bonita didn't quite understand how far off granny was, getting more insane day by day. But some times insanity can be pretty accurate.

More in a short week! :-)
