Welcome to SimBasic - a community legacy!

What happened next? Find out in the Greench Farm legacy!

4 couples stranded and founded a new community on Maccaroni Island. Currently the 3rd generation is about to start new families! This is a Sims3 community legacy that has been updated frequently for a full year, and contains about 100 chapters! Late July 2012 it came to an end and a new spin-off legacy focusing on just one of these households will bring the story forward, starting August 15, 2012.

The very first post is here, or use the Blog Archive to look back. Posts describing the project are tagged *. Please see the interactive map for household bios and family trees. Comments are welcome both here on the blog and on the SimBasic thread at the thesims3 forum. Even if there won't be more updates, I will still read your commnts.

I hope you will enjoy the read! :-)

Week 2 Day 2 - The master plan

Spending a full day with the Blumington family yesterday, I plan to check on all the other three houses today. I might need to stop by all 4 every day just to make sure they make money from what they produce. There might be a slight problem though, I don't know if they will keep their consigned items while I switch houses a lot, or if they will lose that income.

Not sure what Greta and Gabriel were up to when I checked on them this morning, but it looked like they had fun. Maybe they just told a joke. LaShawn is on the ground, while Jess is in the garden (not pictured).
Plan is that Gabriel will go to the beach at 9 AM to sell their harvested crops to Roger's consignment store.

At Arrival Beach the beach store just opened. When adding the cash register, I expected to find a randomly assigned never-seen-before-sim serving it. Finding Roger there, was a nice surprise. That he got one extra set of clothes isn't such a big deal.
Yes, you can consign your mechanical toys and other stuff here at the beach store.

Next customer was Bianca Blumington.
Hm, Bianca just had a brush yesterday, when excavating on the beach... why not use THAT brush for painting?

Next is Gabriel Greench.

West of Arrival Beach is the Yea-Lows' hut. Yespar is busy working on the mechanical station.

Their neighbour further west is the Redwards. Rita had a son named Randal. Isn't it funny how Rita & Roger Redward gets a son with a R-name? Just like Bianca & Bolan Blumington's daughter Bridgette got a B-name? :-O I didn't pick those names! Did the game understand how each family has one similar first letter? Nah, the Greench family ruined it all. Neve mind.
Oh oh, Rita . it's Randal, not Rendal...

One long hour later...

A short walk later, Yespar arrived the Redward hut.

Then they ran up to the highest point of the island.
Yespar not being well trained had to stop several times, but finally made it to the top...
Actually, they don't know whether it's an island or not, they just happen to be in the island mood.

So, will their top secret master plan be successful? To be continued in two days...

Week 2 Day 1 - The Consignment Store

Today we'll finally stop by at the Blumington home. I was not sure how many kids Bianca and Bolan had, but it turns out they only had a daughter Bridgette last night, and today is already her toddler birthday. This small household doesn't claim much to feel at home, but practically there is a limit for everything.

Finding ways to make money has suddenly become more important to all the 4 households. Bianca has not decided yet. Bolan will most likely be selling fish, and she could help him, but painting pictures would be closer to her ambitions, even without a gallery. Becoming a mother also affects Bianca's priorities.

I'm sure you will be a great father, Bolan. Hopefully your kids will inherite your childish trait, or you will be even more childish than them...
Bianca visited the store a little later, but there wasn't really much on offer.

The basket was too expensive! Is Roger THAT greedy? Then he suggested some books, even a few skill building books, and some weird toys that Bridgette would be too young to play with anyway. There was also a bottle of nectar, but Bianca was not sure that it would be a wise investment. There was so many things they could make better use of right now. She told Roger she would like to order a cheap easel. Then she consigned a Red Herring (yea, it worked fine!), and realised that Bolan should go fishing rather than reading a mechanics book.

She looked around for possible ways to raise funds.

Today's briefing was delayed to 6 PM because Roger didn't want to spoil his first day running the beach store. Well, running the briefing during working hours would have brought customers to the beach, but never mind, Roger. Bianca hurried back home, and Bolan walked to Arrival Beach. Around 6 PM also Yvonne showed up.
Then the briefing started...
Wow - 10% of debts!!! The man IS greedy. In my head I planned something like 2%. Even if that was a typo, when Roger said it, I don't dare to interrupt...
Getting paid §1000 per child - why not?
But not everyone was happy. As soon as the briefing was over, Gabriel pulled Bolan aside...
Gabriel didn't understand why the decision could not wait until tomorrow. Those representing 40% could actually come up with alternative ways that the 60% had not thought of. Such a big case shouldn't just be a simple yes or no. But starting trouble would be an even worse idea when they all depend on each other.
Back home they got some material from Gabriel, and expanded their hut a little. By locking off the kids' bedroom they will avoid that both adults wake up from kids crying.
Much later Gabriel stopped by with one of the cribs. The other will be delivered tomorrow, and Bolan will pay with 14 fish, delivered two per day.
Then the wild animals were hunting the night again. Bolan never liked them. He just had a nap, he decided to go out fishing instead of going to bed. Perhaps he would get a glimse of the creatures while fishing? Tomorrow they should make a plan to find out more about the creatures.
Yes! Catching fish, is like catching money... Kaching!

The Blumington household has §4.754 left on their account. That sounds like a lot when you can't buy much, but with 4 kids there will be plenty of needs coming up.

To be continued in two days!

Week 1 Day 7 - The bank accountant

Not just another day, but also the last day of their first simweek - 7 days. Or was it 7 years? I don't think they have stayed in these poor shelters for 7 years, but this kind of time confusion was always part of the Sims series.

This morning Yohanna was very hungry. She recalled the newly discovered plants on the northern beach, and walked there to harvest some. She felt like she was about to commit a crime while passing the Redward house, but they didn't notice her.
On the beach she could only harvest some lime fruits. The small plants still had no crops, or perhaps others had been there before Yvonne? She ate one lime fruit, then noticed there was black dust on them - how weird!

On her way back home she stumbled upon some small, mysterious creatures. They looked like beetles, but wasn't there something - evil - about them?
Yvonne washed the 3 lime fruits in the sea, then hurried back home. Yespar had just left bed, his face was looking better today, just a few more scars. She served him a lime, and told him about the beetles.

At noon Yvonne and Yespar attended the briefing at Arrival Beach. The other 3 households were represented by just one person each. And Bianca Blumington was pregnant... pregnant again? Hm, I think they already had a baby, but I'll have to check...

Sorry for all the text, but Roger has much on his mind today...

Greta sure got a point. It sounds a lot more complicated than when it was only inside of my head. I still think they need a system, they need a way to build a fortune. Not quite sure how they will make a living; Bolan can sell fish (will hopefully work with the consignment store), Bianca can sell paintings, Greta and Gabriel can sell food, Yespar just need an inventor's working station, and Roger Redward I don't worry about - he will find ways to make money.
See... nobody protested when Roger Redward suggested that he will own twice as much as the others. I don't know how detailed this will be, I really don't plan to focus a lot on the bank thing, but Roger will definately make sure that owners get paid, especially now that he will get more than the others. He's got a nose for business.

Hm, someone say nose...?

All the guys are pretty handy, and probably most of the women too. It should be possible to build small things like cribs, easels, chess games etc. I'll just make sure they get primitive textures.

Well, if you were suggested a bank accountant, you would have changed your point of view, too...

When the others had left Arrival Beach, Roger found Greta was still around. She wanted to talk about the beach store.
The bank book will be ready tomorrow, and I have a feeling that Greta will be the first customer.

I'm sure that some would like to pay a visit to the Greench home, to check the twins. And tonight is a good time because they will grow up. When Greta returned she found Gabriel where she left him, tending their garden.

Right, one of the boys is named LaShawn.   Unfortunately I wasn't there when they were born, or they would not be named LaShawn and Jess. There is naturally no City Hall on the island, so even if I could fix it just for changing names, I'll leave it to the randomness to come up with strange names even in the future.

Then the twins grew up to toddlers! Tadaa! I can't wait to see them grow up to kids, but they already seem to look a bit different. LaShawn is DICIPLINED and LIGHT SLEEPER while Jess is EXCITABLE and HEAVY SLEEPER. I will set traits manually for the first 3 generations, based on a simple system to make kids get more of their parents' traits. I always missed that in this game, to say that "that kid behaves just like her mother". I'll post about my traits system later if anyone is interested.

Oh, and I figured new sims won't get their own blog tag until they reach childhood.
Well, let's hope it's the last night the kids must sleep on the ground. Gabriel should be able to build some primitive cribs tomorrow. You never know what happens when...

... those wild sounds haunts the island in the night, sounds that are coming closer...

To be continued in 2 days... stay tuned, and please leave a comment here, or in the forum thread linked from top of blog.
